Hi I'm Karla
Behind every memorial tile is a story, and behind those stories is me, Karla.
For over 13 years, I've been crafting ceramic pieces through my business, The Monster Company, supplying my handmade tiles and hearts to shops and customers throughout New Zealand.
The Love Remains grew from my deep understanding of how precious memories are, and how important it is to honour them. As someone who has experienced personal loss, I understand the desire to keep our loved ones close. This inspired me to combine my experience in ceramics with a way to create meaningful, tangible memorials for others who are navigating their own journey with grief. Working from my studio in Raglan, New Zealand, I pour my heart into each piece I create. As a mother to twin grown up sons and companion to my pets Mary and Pedro, I know firsthand how family - both human and four-legged - shapes our lives. This understanding guides my hands as I craft each unique memorial tile.
Every piece I create is more than just a tile - it's a bridge between memory and present, a physical touchstone of love that remains. I feel privileged to be trusted with creating these deeply personal memorials, and I bring the same care and attention to each piece as I would want for my own loved ones. A few days each week, my studio is brightened by my friend Ayeesha, whose assistance and supportive presence helps ensure that every memorial piece receives the time and care it deserves.
When I'm not in my studio, you'll find me in my garden, line dancing, hanging out with my friends and eating all the delicious food.
The Love Remains is a natural evolution of my work as an artist, allowing me to combine my technical expertise with my deep belief in the importance of remembrance and connection.
